Please join us as Sheatre’s friends and artists gather to celebrate Sheatre’s 25th Anniversary at a gala party at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Cobble Beach, Kemble, Ontario.
Sheatre’s 25th anniversary fundraising gala party celebrates our past and our future with an evening of live entertainment, memories from special guests, tributes to some of our tireless volunteers and contributors, and great food in a beautiful setting.
Enjoy the reception and a fabulous Backyard BBQ banquet with chicken in The Sweetwater Restaurant & Bar overlooking the waters of Owen Sound at Cobble Beach, the picturesque waterfront resort, golf course and community located at 221 McLeese Drive, Kemble (off Grey Road 1).
Then join us in the celebration facilitated by Master of Ceremonies Doug Cleverley.
Over 5000 people have participated creatively in Sheatre's workshops for about 300 projects, and presented to audiences in excess of 67,800. The efforts of these community participants and volunteers has been critical to the company's work, and Sheatre is grateful to every single person. Joan Chandler, founding and still Artistic Director, and Kathryn Companion, Board President, are pleased to present five Friends of Sheatre Awards in recognition of significant commitment: Valerie Bolton-Petrie, Lenore Keeshig-Tobias, Lauren Best, Dufferin School, and Audrey Otter and Ted Codack.
Sheatre will also award the prize from our Fundraising Quilt Raffle - a beautiful, double-sized, hand-crafted quilt by award-winning quilter, Phyllis Britton. Valued at $1000, this quilt can be won for as little as $5. Raffle tickets are $5 each or three for $10. They are available now in Owen Sound at The Downtown Bookstore, Ginger Press and All Around the Sound or from Board Members. Tickets will also be available during the gala.
Entertaining us with a special visit from Saskatchewan is beloved singer/songwriter David Sereda accompanied by Keira McArthur and Tyler Wagler. Silver Elvis, a dynamic icon from Toronto, is making his first appearance in the area just to mark our Silver Anniversary. Tom Thomson is even expected to make a brief appearance.
Sereda, one of Canada's finest singer-songwriters, will regale the audience with a range of songs from Sheatre's past shows TOM and Snow Wonder. Known for his passion, humour and memorable lyrics, he looks for new ways of singing the human story. He will give us a sneak peek at the upcoming show A Desperate Road to Freedom now in development. David has performed on stages from coast-to-coast, at festivals and on national TV and radio. “David Sereda’s range as a singer-songwriter is breathtaking. It’s not his voice so much…as it is the dimension of the emotional scale which drives it…” (The Chronicle - Herald, Halifax)
"So cool it hurts!" Silver Elvis is Peter Jarvis, who "mesmerizes audiences with his unusual forms of body art." You've never seen Elvis like this before! A silver holographic suit, silver hair, silver skin and sun glasses, grooving to beat box -- he's the perfect Silver Anniversary performance jewel. Jarvis is the winner of the Toronto Sun Best Busker Award, a medley of Elvis tribute awards, the 2008 Now Magazine Reader's poll Best Busker Award, and a past and future contributor to Sheatre's productions. Silver Elvis recently graced the Vancouver streets during the Olympics.
