IMAGINE AND ACHIEVE
Making a Case for Arts Education: The Ontario
Arts Council:
"Learners must be equipped with 'the basics',
but basic literacy and math skills are not enough.
To succeed in the workplace and in our changing
society, people must develop higher level skills,
including creativity, problem-solving, the ability
to communicate in different ways, self-discipline,
tolerance and critical thinking.
A growing body of research and decades of practice
demonstrate that arts education can help children
develop these critical higher level skills."
Our artists lead participatory workshops
tailored to meet your needs, including:
- “Brush” -- exploring
our creativity and our heritage through an exploration
of the life, times and art of Canadian painter
Tom Thomson(add a link directly to the Brush
workshop page);
- “Theatre Forum”
-- creating and presenting an interactive drama
focusing on social issues and problem-solving

TOM THOMSON EDUCATIONAL GUIDE
Published in conjunction with the Tom Thomson
Memorial Art Gallery in Owen Sound, this guide
contains a biography of the artist and a wealth
of educational activities gleaned from the programs
of both Sheatre and TTMAG. Activities are available
in cognitive learning and experiential learning
through visual art, music drama, and creative
writing. This guide links to Ontario curriculum.
For a full experience about renowned artist Tom
Thomson, bring a Brush workshop or Songs in the
Key of Tom to your school. The Guide ensures that
teachers are able to make the best use of the
opportunity to have students see Sheatre’s
performances, and potentially participate in workshops
like the ones that were used to develop the show.
