"Desperate Road to Freedom"
A Desperate Road to Freedom chronicles the perilous journey of a young slave girl and her family to Canada and eventually Owen Sound in 1863. From the big house and the torment of the Overseer we experience the horrors of the life of a 11 year old slave girl Julia May and her family as they take steps to free themselves from the oppression of a life of slavery in the southern United States and the dream of freedom in the Canadian north.
This is a two act musical by Joan Chandler and david sereda adapted from Dear Canada - A Desperate Road to Freedom, a powerful novel for young readers by Karleen Bradford.
